Southern Cameroons was the name of the southern half of the former Trust Territory of British Cameroons and existed existed legally from October 1, 1954 to September 30, 1961 This southern part of the territory was previously called Cameroons province, which was administered as a part of the Southern Protectorate of Nigeria from 1923 to 1954. This episode provides a backdrop to current events in Cameroon.
